  • Richmond Symphony Orchestra - Our local professional orchestra. Concerts on Monday nights at the Carpenter Center.

    • David Niethamer's Homepage - Principal clarinetist of the Richmond Symphony and instructor at the University of Richmond.

    • Bruce Hammel's Homepage - Bassoonist with the Richmond Symphony and instructor at VCU.

  • Richmond Chamber Players - The city's premier chamber company, presenting chamber music of varied instrumentation.

  • Richmond Philharmonic Orchestra - A community orchestra with high standards, and quarterly concerts that you should not miss!

• Community Bands - These groups recruit their members from the general public and are open to all accomplished musicians.

  • Richmond Community Band Hub Page - A listing of all Richmond area community bands, generously hosted by the Richmond Concert Band Society.

  • Chesterfield Community Band - The only community group between the James and Appomattox Rivers! Open to all players of band instruments.

• Pop, Rock & Jazz Groups

  • Richmond Music Online - A great reference for anyone interested in the local rock scene. Many links to individual groups.

  • Virginia Jazz Online - Sponsored by the Richmond Jazz Society?

  • East Coast Entertainment - This Richmond-based agency has offices all over the eastern US, and provides a close look at many working commercial bands in the region.

  • Spectrum - my regular working band. Without peer if I say so myself. Look for play dates on my upcoming performances page.

  • Casper - one of the grandaddies of Richmond's working bands, and still one of the best.

• Music Organizations & Publications

  • Virginia Organization of Composers & Lyricists (VOCAL) - A fascinating and talented alliance of local songwriters. They put on two live performances a month, and have their own cable TV show. Check them out!

• Music Stores
  • Boykins - A longtime fixture on the local scene, Boykins has 14 locations in eastern Virginia. (And the Midlothian Pike location has moi on their teaching staff!)
  • Jacobs - Sold me my first clarinet, and now I teach there. Conveniently located next to Chesterfield Towne Center, and in Mechanicsville. They also offer sound system installations.
  • Richmond Music Center - Not horn-oriented, but a great rock n' roll store and a percussion specialist. I had to include Kip on here because he's simply the best!
