Enharmonic Tones

This is an exasperating subject for many students, since it introduces them to double sharps and double flats. Why do we even deal with this?

The answer is that we need double sharps in order to have proper note and chord spelling in some of the sharp keys, and we need double flats for the same reason in some of the flatter keys. Get used to seeing them and understanding them. You'll be using them in earnest beginning with Lesson 79.
